What is Making Tax Digital?

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax Self Assessment is an HMRC initiative requiring landlords and self-employed individuals to keep digital records and submit quarterly updates directly to HMRC. Landlords with rental income over £50,000 were required to comply from April 2026 — if that's you, you need to be compliant now. Those with income over £30,000 must comply from April 2027.

How do CSV imports work?

Export your bank statement as a CSV file from your online banking portal — all major UK banks support this. Upload the file in MTD for Landlords and we will parse the transactions, present them in a structured table, and suggest categories automatically. The whole process typically takes a few minutes.

Can my accountant use this?

Yes — and they get far more than exports. Accountants have their own dedicated portal where they can set up your account, manage your properties and transactions on your behalf, and send you an onboarding invite when everything is ready. They can see a complete financial overview — income, expenses, net profit — without you needing to share files or chase spreadsheets. You can also invite an existing accountant from your account settings to give them direct access.

I'm an accountant — is there a plan for my practice?

Yes. The Accountant plan is £49/month (or £39/month billed annually) and gives your practice unlimited client accounts under one dashboard. Your first client is always free with no subscription needed. A 14-day free trial is included — no credit card required. You can onboard clients by creating their account, setting up properties and transactions on their behalf, then sending them a branded invite to claim their account when you're ready.

Is my financial data secure?

Yes. All data is encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest using AES-256. Our infrastructure is hosted within the UK and EU, and we comply fully with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We never share your financial data with third parties.

How does the free trial work?

Landlords get a 7-day free trial with full access to all features — no credit card required. Accountants get a 14-day free trial on the Accountant plan. At the end of the trial, choose the Starter plan (£12/month), Pro plan (£24/month), or Accountant plan (£49/month) to continue. Annual billing saves you 2 months. If you decide not to subscribe, your account will be paused and your data retained for 30 days.

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes. There are no long-term contracts or cancellation fees. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings, and you will retain access until the end of the current billing period. We never charge penalties for cancelling.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) via our secure payment processor. All payments are processed using industry-standard encryption and we never store your full card details.
